A-List Laughs at the Castle: Comedy at the Castle Comes to Devon

After three years of sold-out success in the Midlands, the highly acclaimed Comedy at the Castle festival is expanding, bringing its brand of A-list stand-up to the stunning grounds of Powderham Castle, Devon this July. For two days, the historic venue will be the backdrop for three separate shows featuring some of the biggest names in comedy.

The festival promises to be one of the largest comedy events in the South West this year, held in the picturesque Deer Park with the iconic castle as a stunning visual centerpiece. Attendees can expect more than just world-class comedy, with award-winning street food, a wide selection of bars, and cold Cobra beers on offer.

Friday, July 18th, 6 PM – 10 PM

The festival kicks off with a bang, headlined by the legendary Frank Skinner. One of the country’s most beloved comedians and TV stars, Skinner recently completed a major European tour. He will be joined by the five-time Scottish Comedian of the Year winner Larry Dean, rising star Kane Brown, and the “bullet proof standup” of Kate Barron. Hosting the night will be Freddy Quinne, known for one of the UK’s biggest comedy podcasts.

Saturday, July 19th, 11:30 AM – 4:30 PM

Saturday’s daytime show features a lineup of household names. Joel Dommett, the presenter of The Masked Singer, tops the bill. He’s joined by the breakout viral sensation Red Richardson, one of Ricky Gervais’s tour supports, and Jen Brister, a regular on shows like Live at the Apollo and QI. The lineup is rounded out by Andrew Mensah, another of Ricky Gervais’s tour supports and a host on Sky Sports’ Fantasy Football League. Freddy Quinne returns to MC.

Saturday, July 19th, 6 PM – 10 PM

The festival concludes with a knockout evening show, headlined by the energetic and brilliant Russell Kane, star of Live at the Apollo. Joining him is the “king of the one-liner,” Gary Delaney, a staple of Mock the Week. The bill also features the talented Matt Bragg, another of Ricky Gervais’s tour supports, and the hilarious Laura Smyth, star of Live at the Apollo. Freddy Quinne will once again be on hand to guide the audience through the night.

Feedback from the festival’s first run at Powderham has been overwhelmingly positive, with reviews praising the “great comedians,” “brilliant venue,” and “welcoming and smiley” staff, all contributing to a “great atmosphere.” With a lineup this strong and a venue this unique, Comedy at the Castle is set to become a firm fixture on the South West’s festival calendar.
