Peak efficiency: Ben Shephard conquers Three Peaks as JAECOO 7 drives into Guinness World Records history

JAECOO UK has secured its first Guinness World Records title after the JAECOO 7 SHS-P achieved the lowest fuel consumption for a UK National Three Peaks Challenge with a plug-in hybrid powered production Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV), with TV presenter and climber Ben Shephard and drivers Kevin Booker and Sam Clarke completing the record attempt during 19–20 September 2026.

Combining JAECOO’s rugged, adventure-ready character with the efficiency of its fifth-generation Super Hybrid System, the challenge reimagined one of Britain’s best-known endurance events. Covering the traditional Three Peaks route across Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon), the record attempt combined almost 470 miles of real-world driving with three demanding mountain ascents, creating a rigorous demonstration of plug-in hybrid capability under genuine driving conditions.

At the heart of the challenge was one of Britain’s best-known television presenters, Ben Shephard, who took on the formidable physical feat of climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Yr Wyddfa on foot. Between each ascent, Ben was driven by renowned efficiency specialists Kevin Booker and Sam Clarke, who drew on their experience of setting multiple fuel-economy and electric-vehicle efficiency records to maximise the JAECOO 7 SHS-P’s performance throughout the journey. Together, the trio brought endurance on foot and record-breaking efficiency on the road to one of Britain’s most iconic challenges.

On the mountains, Ben Shephard was supported by Cai Jarvis, Chief Instructor at Lost Earth Adventures, who acted as his guide throughout the challenge. On the road, the record attempt was independently verified by the RAC, which sealed the JAECOO 7 SHS-P to ensure the integrity of the result, while Webfleet, Bridgestone’s advanced fleet management solution, tracked the vehicle throughout. Webfleet’s trip report confirmed a total distance of 469.5 miles, with Guinness World Records officially recording an average fuel consumption of 68.7 mpg.

The achievement marks another milestone for the JAECOO 7, which has become one of the UK’s fastest-growing new vehicles since launching in January 2025. Having consistently featured among the nation’s ten best-selling vehicles since September 2025*, the model now adds an official Guinness World Records title to its growing list of accolades.

Victor Zhang, Managing Director, JAECOO UK, said: “A Guinness World Records title is recognised the world over, which made it the perfect way to show what the JAECOO 7 SHS-P and our fifth-generation Super Hybrid System can do outside the lab. Averaging 68.7 mpg across almost 470 miles of motorways, mountain roads and changing weather is exactly the kind of real-world efficiency our customers benefit from every day. Just as importantly, the JAECOO 7 gave Ben a comfortable, quiet space to rest and recover between each ascent – proof that JAECOO drivers never have to choose between efficiency and comfort. Achieving a Guinness World Records title under those conditions, independently verified by the RAC, proves the capability built into every JAECOO 7 SHS-P – and we’re thrilled to have done it alongside Ben, Kevin and Sam.”

TV presenter Ben Shephard, who climbed all three peaks during the record attempt, said: “I’ve wanted to take on the Three Peaks for years, and doing it as part of a Guinness World Records attempt with JAECOO added a whole new level of pressure. Three mountains, three nations and a whole lot of rain were brutal on the legs, so the time between the climbs really mattered. The JAECOO 7 SHS-P was so comfortable and quiet that I could genuinely rest and recover on the road, while Kevin and Sam got incredible efficiency out of it and Cai from Lost Earth Adventures guided me on the hills. Quite honestly, the fact that they all put up with me was perhaps the biggest test of all! Coming down from the final summit, knowing we’d done it together, is a feeling I won’t forget.”

Multiple Guinness World Records Holder and efficiency driving specialist Kevin Booker, who co-drove the JAECOO 7 SHS-P during the event, said: “Efficiency has never been about driving slowly. It’s about understanding how a vehicle works and allowing the technology to perform at its best. What impressed me most throughout the challenge was how naturally the JAECOO 7 SHS-P adapted to everything the route threw at it. From long motorway stretches to steep climbs, the Super Hybrid System continually managed energy intelligently without compromising usability. Achieving another Guinness World Records title under genuine real-world conditions, and doing it alongside Ben and Sam, made this challenge feel even more special. Thank you to the whole team that made this possible.”

The challenge centred on the JAECOO 7 SHS-P and its advanced, proprietary fifth-generation Super Hybrid System, designed to combine strong real-world efficiency with long-distance usability and everyday practicality. The Guinness World Records achievement follows another significant demonstration of the JAECOO 7 SHS-P’s efficiency credentials earlier this year, when the model exceeded its official WLTP range during an independently verified economy challenge at UTAC Millbrook. The vehicle travelled 828 miles on a single tank and full charge – more than 11% beyond its official WLTP combined range – further demonstrating the real-world capability of JAECOO’s fifth-generation Super Hybrid System.

The JAECOO 7 SHS-P is priced from £35,170 OTR** and is supported by a comprehensive seven-year/100,000-mile warranty. Customers can access the model through JAECOO UK’s rapidly expanding retailer network across the UK.
