Lando Norris World Champion

Lando Norris has become Great Britain’s 11th Formula One world champion, sealing his maiden title under the lights in Abu Dhabi by finishing third to beat Max Verstappen by just two points.

The Bristol-born driver became Britain’s 11th F1 world champion, and he was overcome with emotion when he stepped out of the cockpit. “I’ve not cried in a while! I didn’t think I would cry, but I did,” he told David Coulthard in the post-race interview. “It’s a long journey. First of all, I want to say a big thanks to my guys, everyone at McLaren, my parents, my mum, my dad, they are the ones who have supported me since the beginning.

“It feels amazing. I now know what Max feels like a little bit! I want to congratulate Max and Oscar, my two biggest competitors the whole season. It’s been a pleasure to race against both of them. It’s been an honour, I’ve learned a lot from both. I’ve enjoyed it. It’s been a long year. We did it, and I’m so proud of everyone.”

For Norris, the road to glory in Abu Dhabi was not a simple one. He dropped back from second to third on the opening lap, losing a position to Piastri. After that, he faced pressure from Charles Leclerc, who found pace from Saturday’s miserable qualifying session for Ferrari.
